An interesting fact is that tonight at the final showdown between France and Portugal, there are two footballers which are declared Roma. In the National Team of France this is the Number 10 footballer Andre Pier Gignac, while as in the Portuguese side that is Ricardo Quaresma.
While it is known that Quaresma has Romani roots, a little less known fact is that the French player Gignac also has Romani roots. His mother Korin is a descent from the Spanish Roma. Where during the French colonization were in Algeria and later moved to France. His father, despite not being a pure Roma, fulfills the conditions of the Roma council and is accepted to be a part of the community.
His family, even though they are naturalized French citizens, they still have all of the characteristics of a Romani integrated family, which declares that they are Roma with no prejudices. Andre Pier Gignac is a symbol of the French Roma, and is the first Romani which will play in the French National Team. Because of his injury, he isn't able to fully participate at this EURO 2016, but in several occasions he entered the game in the last 20-30 minutes as a substitute to the French attacker Olivier Giroud.
