Dimitrija Golubovic (17), a young Roma from Nis, returned from Greece with a gold medal from an international competition.
He is a third-year student at the "Bora Stankovic" high school in Nis.
He won the gold medal at the just concluded International Philosophical Olympiad IPO 2023 in Greece. Dimitrija first won the state competition in Pozarevac, which qualified him for the prestigious world philosophical exhibition. In Greece, his philosophical essay in English was declared the best among 103 competitors from 49 countries, according to the expert jury!
- There were five criteria that were evaluated. These are argumentation, philosophical support, originality, structure of the essay and finally - answering the topic in the right way. I had a topic that dealt with the subjectivity of moral perception, it was actually a quote from Hume. It took four hours to make. I had stage fright when I started writing because the competition was really incredible. But when I wrote the first page, the nervousness disappeared - says Dimitrije. - It was the best essay I wrote in my life, I really did my best. When my name was not among the honorary degrees, I knew I had won a medal. When I realized that I was neither among the bronze nor among the silver medals, I thought I had won the gold and I couldn't believe it. When I heard my name - it was an unreal feeling. You know, I was preparing for that gold, but when it actually happens, it's amazing. The gold at the World Olympics is too far and when it is achieved it will look incredible, I am still not fully aware that I won the first place - says Dimitrije.
