Pope Francis apologized to Roma about the discrimination in the history of this community in Europe, and paid tribute to Catholics in Romania who were persecuted during the reign of the Communists.
- History does not teach that Christians, including Catholics, are not aware of such evil. I would like to ask forgiveness from you for this, said the Pope on the last day of a three-day visit to Romania.
The Pope apologized to the Roma for "the many experiences" they had when it came to discrimination, segregation and harassment. At the end of the Pope's visit to Romania, a ceremony was held at the airport in Sibiu, attended by Romanian President Klaus Johannis.
Pope Francis then left for the Vatican.
