Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic today released a report on her visit to Bulgaria in November 2019.
In her report, she focuses mainly on racism, intolerance and discrimination, violence against women and domestic violence, and freedom of the media.
She laments the hostile atmosphere towards Roma, some of whom had to leave their homes after anti-Roma rallies in several villages.
Mijatovic urges authorities to urgently rectify the situation of the persons concerned and to act quickly to strengthen legal guarantees by accompanying the expulsions.
According to her, vigorous measures should be taken to improve the general housing conditions of Roma, including their access to social housing.
