The European Court of Human Rights has filed a lawsuit against Serbia over the danger of violating the right to life and inhumane treatment of Roma living in the informal Chukarichka forest settlement in Belgrade.
The settlement is home to more than 70 Roma families who fled Kosovo in 1999, left to fend for themselves - without water, electricity or waste.
In conditions of pandemic, these citizens are released on their own.
After several attempts by the A11 Initiative to animate the government of the Republic of Serbia to take action, they were forced to submit a request to the European Court of Human Rights to take temporary measures against Serbia for unsupported actions.
The European Court acted immediately after this request, where it is clearly confirmed that the situation in this settlement is a real risk and the inhuman and inhumane treatment of Roma is a violation of their right to life.
