More than a third of respondents would not accept Roma as a guest at their home. Nine percent of companies in the Western Balkans would not hire Roma, 33 out of 100 would not work for a Roma employer.
As many as 26 percent of citizens do not want their children to share a classroom with Roma, according to a survey by the Balkan Regional Cooperation Council's 2020 barometer. - With this we must fight and stop it with joint regional efforts by achieving the goals of the Declaration one by one.
We all deserve the same opportunities. We are all different, but we also need to be equal, says Orhan Usein, team leader of the Roma Integration 2020 project, implemented by the Regional Cooperation Council (SRS) with financial support from the European Union and the Open Society Foundations.
He points out that the corona crisis has affected Roma much more than other people, but, as he said, has inflamed and expanded the negative narratives towards Roma in public and especially on the Internet.
