In the Kharkiv region there was a conflict between locals and Roma people

About 500 locals clashed with gypsies in the Balakleya district of the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. This was announced on Saturday by the press service of the National Police of the region.

"Residents of the village of Andreevka, Balakleya district, have appointed a peaceful action to express dissatisfaction with the actions of Roma families living in the area. About 500 locals gathered at Roma homes. The peaceful action turned into clashes," the statement said.

Following the incident, local police personnel were picked up and evacuated Roma from the epicenter of the conflict. "The police provide security. Public order is guarded by about 80 police officers and fighters of special police units," the press service added. Now the territory of the village is surrounded by police. "Law enforcement officers are monitoring the situation and will not allow the violent development of events," the police stressed.

According to Ukrainian media, locals believe that because of the Roma pepole in the village increased crime. According to them, the Roma people are also involved in the beating on August 19 of a young man living there.
