December 11 marks four years since the death of the most famous queen of Roma music, Esma Redzepova-Teodosievska. She died in 2016.
Esma was born in Skopje on August 8, 1943. She was the fifth of a total of six children of Janija and Ibrahim Redzepov. Her career started modestly with tours throughout Macedonia. The first appearance outside the then SFRY was in 1961 in Bulgaria.
Esma has been a resident of Belgrade since 1960.
Esma never gave birth to her children in her marriage to Stevo Teodosievski but adopted and raised 47. They all grew up and were educated in the ensemble "Teodosievski".
In 2013 received the prestigious title National Artist of the Republic of Macedonia.
Esma Redzepova recorded and released more than 580 songs, including two platinum and eight gold discs. He performed more than 22,000 concerts, a third of which were held for charity. With the Ensemble Teodosievski recorded 108 singles, 32 compact cassettes, 15 discs, six videocassettes and numerous television shows.
On the social networks, on the occasion of the anniversary of her death, Simeon Atanaosv, one of Esma's 47 deceased children and the only one who ran away from her until the last day, was announced. He wrote on his FB profile: "Four years have passed since you were gone, I am still struggling to fulfill your wish and will. This government did not show a gram of respect for your work, a great shame! But I will continue to fight for your trust to be fulfilled.
