This was stated by the head of the European branch of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge.
"It can be concluded that the region is approaching a kind of final phase of the pandemic," Kluge told AFP yesterday, adding that by March 60 per cent of Europeans could be infected with omicron.
When the current wave of omicron infection in Europe subsides, "global immunity will be established for weeks and months, thanks to the vaccine and immunity that humans have acquired through infection and reduced seasonality," Kluge explained.
We expect a period of peace, and then at the end of the year Covid-19 could return, but it does not have to be a pandemic, added Kluge.
