On Friday in Imotski, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović participated in the celebration of the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the 115th brigade of VV Imotski. He commented on his statement yesterday about the Roma and the climate.
"I did not fight once to protect honor and friendship when it comes to the Roma people. Did I perhaps say that Roma are thieves? Or did I spread prejudices and stereotypes? You know who steals in this country and who steals metal. Did I say that Roma steal? Should I say that Roma are doctors of science? Well, I'm not a doctor of science either. Why is Kaytazi apologizing?
Mr. Kaitazi, the first question is whether he is Roma, let's dig into how Roma he really is," said Milanovic.
"He knows very well that I know who he is and how we cooperated and what he asked of me. I was just waiting when I said that yesterday, without any bad intention, especially towards the Roma, who are a less protected part of the population. I have no regrets, there is nothing to justify. I grew up with Roma. Who is he to say that I offended someone. let him apologize to them, that's what he gets money for. Unbelievable, what a disgrace. Yes, the Roma do these things, I didn't say they steal. What happened in Croatia after he was the representative of the Roma, about their social status, education? What changed? What did he do for the Roma? for myself".
Let us remind you that on Thursday, MP Veljko Kajtazi commented on Milanović's statement about the Roma and said that the president should not contribute to stereotypes, and that he insulted the entire Roma community with that statement.
