Many Roma have gone abroad since the 1970s. But few of them can boast as much as the Roma from the region in Sabac and Macva in Serbia can. Here may live the richest Roma in this part of Europe.
These are the Roma from the villages of Bugarim, Machvanski Prichinovci and Gomilica. In fact, there are huge villas with swimming pools and luxuriously equipped worth several million euros. These luxury buildings stand empty and wait for their owners for weeks or months to come on vacation from Vienna.
An example is the Roma family Jovanovic who have been living in Vienna for four generations. As they themselves say, Vienna, Paris and London are in vain, when it is most beautiful for them in the Bulgarian village. "For us, paradise is here," they say. But while in Bulgaria they have a luxury house, in Vienna they live in a 50 square meter apartment. As they say. You are silent, you work and nobody cares how many square meters of an apartment you live in Vienna.
"Most of the people here are abroad and they have earned these houses from their labor and work there. Now is the time to come back, and get something here," they said.
As they say, the Roma are in agreement, a little is "claimed in the pocket" with the poorer neighbors, and that what bothers him the most is envy.
