Two years ago, in the settlement which is located near the outskirts of the city was in the focus of the public because of the now deceased Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandikj decided to settle Roma in the converted business buildings from the barracks of the former Plinska settlement. Two years have passed, and the families which found their home here aren’t even mentioned anymore. When the Roma moved in, they say that some of the natives protested. They were worried at the beginning, but still, they know that they shouldn’t judge people based on their nationality and religion and that is why the newly moved in Roma neighbors are well accepted. And the remainder of the residents found out that they had unnecessary worries.

“This is a small settlement, we all know each other. In the buildings there are 20 Roma families and they are our neighbors just like the others. We say hello on daily basis, and our nephews play together with their children” said grandma Milanka. “We’re together and we know each other, we drink coffee together. All in all, we function normally” said Milanka.
