Ernesto Guevara (June 14, 1928 - October 9, 1967) or Che (Spanish: Che) was a Marxist revolutionary and one of the leaders of the Cuban Revolution.

Guevara was one of the key figures in Fidel Castro's revolution in Cuba (1956-1959) as a member of the July 26 movement.

After the victory in the revolution, he was active for several years in promoting revolutionary societies, traveling the world as a Cuban diplomat, and then personally engaged in liberation from dictatorial regimes, first in the Congo and then in Bolivia.

In Bolivia, in collaboration with the Central Intelligence Agency and the Bolivian military, he was captured and killed the next day. His image as a fighter for the liberation of the victims of imperialism, even today, decades after his death, is presented as one of the main symbols and icons of social and political revolutions around the world. As a staunch military leader and fully committed to his revolutionary cause with moral authority over his troops, he remained a controversial figure of great historical significance.

Time magazine named Che Guevara one of the 20 greatest world icons and heroes in their list of the 100 most influential people in the world in the 20th century. The famous photograph of Guevara, taken by Alberto Korda, was named the most famous photograph in the world and a symbol of the twentieth century by the Maryland Academy of Arts.
