Montenegro - Workshop held on the topic - Social equality and anti-Gypsyism
On November 23-24, 2022, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights in Montenegro, the Department for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Roma and Egyptians conducted an education on the above topic for representatives of state institutions, namely:
-representatives from the Basic and Supreme Courts, -representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, representatives of the municipalities of Nikšica, Ulcinj and Tuzia,
-representatives of the capital Podgorica, -representatives of the municipal police, -representatives of preschools, primary and secondary schools and representatives of the employment institute of Montenegro.
During this education, the participants were introduced to the areas in which the Roma and Egyptian population is discriminated against, what challenges they face and what we need to do to reduce this phenomenon.
During the seminar, the participants were introduced to the new plans and programs that will be undertaken with the aim of suppressing and reducing discrimination against the mentioned minority communities and were introduced to the term antigypsyism, which also represents a specific form of racism, which can be expressed, among other things , with violence, hate speech, exploitation, stigmatization and the most obvious types of discrimination.
A total of 26 representatives from state institutions participated in the above training, and the lecturers were Sokolj Beganaj, head of the Department for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Roma and Egyptians, and Elvis Berisha, executive director of the NGO Korachite sa nama (Phiren amenca).
