Belgrade has made a contract to procure 300 containers intended for Roma housing, and the work was awarded in a second attempt.
Mayor Dragan Gilas canceled the first tender because of the high price. For the supply of containers, Belgrade will eventually have to allocate around 700,000 euros.
"We finished the first tender a month and a half ago," said Gilas. Three bids arrived and only one was valid at around 1.6m euros. We wanted to reduce the price, and the bidder gave us a two percent reduction.
We did not accept and then we announced a new tender. Three bids arrived again and at the end of a direct settlement, a price of around 700,000 euros was agreed.
The containers, in agreement with European Bank experts, will be distributed by settlement. We are ready by the end of August to relocate the Roma who are now on the site under the Gazela Bridge.
