WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury says that despite being white, he has often been the target of racism in Britain because of his Roma background.
Fury, nicknamed Gypsy King, is part of the Irish Travellers ethnic group, which lives in the United Kingdom and is often called Gypsys.
Speaking on British television, he spoke of racism following protests in the United States and around the world over racial inequality, and said that you could be a victim of racism, regardless of skin color.
"I am a white man, but in 2020 I suffer from racism because I am a traveler and I have such an ethnic background. Even now, you enter a pub, bar, or restaurant, and the door says, "We reserve the right not to let trailers, gypsies, go." It's not just black people who suffer from racism. And nobody says anything, that's acceptable racism here. That's what it is, "said Fury.
The 31-year-old boxer claims that he and his wife Paris were not allowed to enter a restaurant in Britain in 2016 because of their ethnicity.
"It's scary because you can't judge a person by group. Seeing such a sign at the restaurant was really disappointing. I am a heavyweight champion representing this country, and I can't go to a restaurant. "Anyone can be a racist, whether they are white, black or brown."
