Recently, the Association for Women's Rights Initiative from Suto Orizari published a publication which was part of the project "Research on the approach and functionality of the system for protection of Roma women, victims of gender-based violence and domestic violence on the territory of Skopje", supported by European Center for Roma Rights.
Findings and analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaires and focus groups For the needs of the research, 200 questionnaires were conducted with Roma women from 5 municipalities, as follows: Suto Orizari, Gjorce Petrov, Gazi Baba, Centar and Cair, ie those municipalities where a larger Roma population lives . Twelve focus groups covering 50 women were also conducted.
Among other findings, it was noticeable that most of the respondents, ie 77% are unemployed, while 23% of women are employed.
Regarding the level of education, the largest percentage of women have primary education, ie 41.5%. It is worrying that as many as 41% of women have no formal education, while only 0.5% have higher education.
80.5% of the respondents live in a community of 3-9 members, and 11% live in households with more than 9 members.
77.5% of women answered that they were or are victims of gender-based or domestic violence.
When asked whether they reported gender-based or domestic violence, 92.5% of women surveyed said they did not report it, while 7.5% of women said they did.
