Roma integration in the Netherlands

For the 2014-2020 period, the Netherlands will receive a total of €1.3 billion in EU cohesion funds, out of which €1 billion will come from the European Social Fund (ESF) and the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).

Of this amount, at least half will be spent on the ESF, with at least 70% of that going towards promoting social inclusion and combating poverty. The latter could also fund Roma-related measures.

The Council of Europe estimates that there are approximately 37,500 Roma live in the Netherlands (0.24% of the population).

The Netherlands’ national Roma integration strategy is not a strategy as such, but rather an integrated set of policy measures within the Netherlands’ social inclusion policies.

Municipalities are primarily responsible for addressing problems of the local Roma population, and the Roma community itself is expected to play a crucial role in their integration.

The authorities have set up a programme to improve the prospects and opportunities of Roma children.

Roma integration in Luxembourg

For the 2014-2020 period, Luxembourg will be allocated a total of €59.7 million under the Cohesion Policy. At least 50.7% of this amount will be spent on the ESF, with at least 20% of this going towards the promotion of social inclusion and combating poverty. The latter amount could also finance Roma-related measures.

The Council of Europe estimates that there are approximately 300 Roma living in Luxembourg (0.06% of the population).

Luxembourg’s national Roma integration strategy is not a strategy as such, but rather an integrated set of policy measures within Luxembourg’s social inclusion policies.

Fashion show with Roma designs in Ulm, Germany

Vivid colors adorned the charming Cornhausplatz square in Ulm. Simply wide concrete benches were turned into runways with Budapest Roma designs.

On the occasion of the Roma Week of Culture in Ulm, which lasted until Saturday, September 21st, Hungarian designer Erika Varga presented her collection. Plaid dresses shine the Saturday sun in bright, turquoise, red and orange, rarely monochrome and most colorful patterns.

Typically for Roma design everyone was embroidered with golden silver threads. It was composed of a mix of traditional and modern and a new approach to spreading the message between Roma and non-Roma.

At the same time, the designer Varga during the fashion show in front of the audience made a musical track with the traditional Hungarian Roma orchestra which met with sympathy and cheers.
