Czech Republic: The Roma women who were sterilized without their consent are now receiving damages

The lower house of the Czech Parliament has adopted the law for compensation of Roma women who were sterilized without their consent, The Group for protection of human rights believe that over a hundred Roma women were sterilized without even knowing and they expect that over 400 women will have the right to seek a one-time compensation in the amount of 14.350 dollars. According to the report of the National Ombudsman from 2005, the sterilization was made during the time of communism, it served as a semi-official tool to limit the Roma population in today’s Czech Republic, however this practice continued to happen even after the fall of communism in 1989. The women who will have the right to compensation will be the women which were illegally sterilized between the periods of 1966 up until 2021.

Serbia: A 20 Euro payday that led to death – four victims in a horrific car accident!

A terrible car accident happened near Loznica where four people lost their lives, and several other were horribly injured. The van that transported seasonal workers to harvest strawberries collided with a truck. The accident happened on the 5th of June at around 6:25h The victims are from the villages of Jadranska Lesnici and Josevo. They are Goran M, Radojka J, Sofija B and Radislava T. All of the victims and injured people were seasonal works which were supposed to harvest strawberries. They worked in order to feed their families for a payday of 20 Euros. Goran M was a father of three minor children. His wife Liljana is heavily injured. They were from the Josevo village. Three of the victims are from Lesnica. Sofija B was a mother of 5.

- The whole village is covered in black, say the residents. Honest and hardworking people have passed away, people who struggled to get 20 Euros in order to feed their families.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: the Roma from Brcko are disgraced by the discrimination in the health care institute, the doctor denies!

Although for years the Roma in Brcko have not been equal members of society, discrimination in the Health Center is the least expected. The Roma community is astonished by the video and what is happening in this facility. They say that it happened in an institution where it was least expected. The Roma community from the Brcko district is looking for answers and calls on the authorities to check who is responsible and the racism in this institution. Meanwhile, the Brcko Health Center denies all allegations that there is discrimination against Roma. "The controversial inscription 'Roma' on the cassettes in the Pediatrics department is part of a ten-year project in the Brcko district." Dr. Music reacted violently to this fact and tried to relativize the moment that there is discrimination of the Roma community in this district.

Local Communist Party cell in Czech Republic posts antigypsyist defamation to official website, party apologizes

Until 2 June, the official website of the District Committee of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) in Frýdek-Místek, Czech Republic, which is linked to the national party's main website, featured a racist post entitled "Government Approves Gypsy Integration Plan" (Vláda schválila plán integrace Cikánů) that was brought to the attention of news server Romea.cz by one of our readers. The piece, published on 24 May without listing an author or referencing any sources of information, reported on the approval of the Roma Strategy 2021-2030 and commented on it in an openly racist way.

The anonymous article featured the following defamatory allegations: "Cikáni - the slackers and parasites of the Czech nation", "Those who do honest work all their lives and pay taxes will have to allow a cíkán or cikánka who has never worked to cut in line ahead of them at the unemployment office?", or "Cikánské children (not all of them) sometimes ended up in 'special' classes because of their poor upbringing, their aggression, their lower intellect, being less able to grasp material and learn. That was not the fault of the majority society, but the historical 'nature' of cikánské children and especially the absolutely insufficient care and upbringing of them by their cikánský parents when they were of preschool age."
