The three presidential candidates on April 1 begin the campaign

On Monday, April 1, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, Stevo Pendarovski and Blerim Reka are starting the campaign for the sixth presidential election.
Siljanovska-Davkova is the presidential candidate of VMRO-DPMNE and the coalition, Stevo Pendarovski of SDSM and the coalition, and Blerim Reka of the Alliance of Albanians and the Besa movement.

The campaign for presidential elections will last until April 19, followed by a 24-hour election silence, before the voting day.
According to announcements from the election headquarters, the candidates will visit almost all settlements, will have meetings with citizens and rallies in major cities. Promising a peaceful and fair campaign.

In anticipation of the official start of the presidential race, appeals for fair and regular elections to the candidates, political parties and citizens addressed the international community, state officials and the SEC.

The new president will be able to choose 1,808,131 citizens with the right vote recorded in the Voters' List.

According to the SEC, the ballot paper Reka will be ranked number one, Siljanovska - Davkova under number two, and Pendarovski number three.
The first election round for the sixth presidential election is scheduled for April 21, and the second will be held on May 5.

According to Macedonian laws, the presidential candidate can win in the first round if he won over 50% of the votes of all registered voters in the Voters List.

Otherwise, a second round will be held on May 5, in which the two candidates with the most votes from the first round will compete. The turnout in the second round should be over 40 per cent for voting to be considered valid.

The term of incumbent President Gjorgje Ivanov ends on May 12, 2019.

In the upcoming census, the emigrants will also be registered by a statement of their relatives

In the upcoming population census, Diaspora expatriates will be able to register only with a statement from their family members.
Presenting their ID number, they will thus be able to prove that they are citizens of Macedonia.

The news was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister Osmani, and this is probably the necessary compromise, after it was announced that the census will still have a column for ethnicity.

In this way, it is expected that the issue that bothered the process will be solved - how the diaspora expatriates will register.

Regarding the census law, Osmani said that the government has harmonized the basic principles. He added that some technical details should be harmonized, after which the law should be passed into the Assembly for adoption.

The census should be conducted from 1 April to 21 April 2020. The last one was realized in 2002 and was followed by numerous debates about the percentage of the population in the country from an ethnic point of view.

The census was in 2011, but was interrupted on the last day of its implementation. The Special Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigative procedure for the eventual liability for the canceled inventory.

Karakachanov: If not resolved for the year - two Roma problems will be at risk after ethnic peace

"While we are playing politics, the state is disappearing. The problem with the Roma is so serious that if measures are not taken to 1-2 years, there is a serious risk for the ethnic peace in us. "
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov during the convening of a round table on the Concept against the Romani Rise of Bulgaria.
What do we offer with our concept? We want to tighten the measures towards state organs, that is, greater efficiency of control over the provision of children's allowance, as well as the abuse of social benefits, "the Deputy Prime Minister explained, adding that the concept is not even the least discriminatory, as some non-governmental organizations show.
"They say the concept was discriminatory, no one managed to point out text in this project some element of discrimination," he said.
"Of course, we should not forget the emphasis on the socialization of the Roma population. The education of illiterate people should be a compulsory policy. Work should also be done to remove ghettos and prevent illegal construction, as well as measures against these people only to be supported by social assistance.
The idea is after this conversation all told and proposed to be processed and finally to offer in the form of a conception that will be adopted in the Council of Ministers, "Karakachanov said.
The deputy prime minister urged politicians to impose a certain censorship on how to deal with ethnos and how to use it, or otherwise no concept will give the necessary effect.

Council of Europe with advice to Albania: More positive protection of minority rights, including Roma

Albania recognizes nine national minorities - Roma, Egyptian, Bosniak, Bulgarian, Romanian, Greek, Montenegrin, Macedonian and Serbian.

In the fourth opinion on Albania, the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe's Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (RCNM) calls on official Tirana to ensure that the law on the protection of national minorities can be effectively implemented with the adoption of additional legislation.

By a decision of the Council of Ministers of Albania from May 2011, the obligation of the birth certificates certificates to be assigned to the ethnicity of persons who were discriminatory was also abolished.

Roma and Egyptians continue to be victims of inequality and discrimination, especially at the local level. Further efforts need to be made to improve their living conditions and access to employment, education and health care, and to promote their integration into society. Additionally, adequate funds should be allocated for the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Integration of Roma and Egyptians for the period 2016-2020.
