Coronavirus vaccination in the EU - from January

EU launches test of Biontec / Pfizer and Modern vaccines. The decision to grant a permit is announced for the end of December, ie the beginning of January. Vaccination in Europe could start after the New Year. Requests for a "conditional permit" for the use of the first two Covid-19 vaccines in the EU from the German-American companies Biontek and Pfizer and the American manufacturer Moderna have already arrived at the European Medicines Agency, EMA in Amsterdam. A decision will be made on December 29 for the US vaccine - on January 14. If all goes according to plan, the first vaccinations with the Biontec immunizer could start in the EU from the beginning of January. The manufacturer, meanwhile, is checking to see if the vaccine stays stable even at lower temperatures. In addition, the preparation can be stored in medical refrigerators in vaccination centers, from where it can be delivered directly to family doctors, who in turn would arrange their patients according to a precise schedule, so the preparation will be used during the day.

Romani actor to appear in latest installment of antigypsyist Czech film series made by former 'special school' teacher

The actor and Romani community member Zdeněk Godla has signed a contract to play the main character in the continuation of the "Bastards" (Bastardi) film series directed by Tomáš Magnusek. The infamous series tells stories in which bad Romani characters cause white people to suffer.
In the previous installments of "Bastards", characters who are Romani children are depicted as criminals who victimize characters who are white children. A schoolteacher addresses the behavior of "the bad guys" by committing violence against them - specifically, murder, which is of course performed out of a sense of helplessness in the very primitively-conceived script.
This fourth instalment of "Bastards" will be, according to the producers, most like the first film in the series from 2010 and also promises to be more of a comedy, although the predominant type of humor, they say, will be "more on the rough side, even sarcastic". The central duo will be played by Godla and Magnusek himself.
"I'm very glad Zdeněk has agreed to do the role. In the mini-series 'School of My Life' [Škola mého života] that we produced I confirmed that he comes prepared and is fair and attentive," Magnusek told the Czech daily iDNES.cz.

The Fight to Strike “Roma” From the Fashion Lexicon

In a country known for its color and flair, the Banjara people of northwest India stand out for their lush embroidery, long skirts embellished with mirrors and mother of pearl buttons, and heavy silver jewelry hanging from their wrists, their hair, ears, and noses. Banjara means traveler or wanderer, and about 1,500 years ago, some left India and migrated west, eventually making it to Europe. To this day, their descendants, who you might know as “Rom/a,” share with the Banjara a love of long, colorful skirts, head coverings, and piles of flashy jewelry. In fact, the nomadic Banjara are often called “the Roma of India.”
The Indian-American designer Viji Reddy employs Banjara artisans to hand-embroider many of the products for her artisan home collection, Alamwar, which is sold in dozens of high-end boutiques everywhere from the Hamptons to San Francisco. An avid traveler herself, when she was planning the launch of her new fashion line, she decided to call it Roma Soul. “I thought just like everyone else, it’s a cool word,” she says.

Portugal: André Ventura fined for discriminating against Roma

Chega's president, André Ventura, has been fined in €438.81 for discriminating against Roma, in relation to a publication written in August on Facebook, according to the Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination (CICDR).
According to the CICDR's decision, to which Lusa News Agency accessed, the only deputy of the extreme right parliamentary party practiced an administrative offense, punishable by a fine, for “discrimination based on ethnical origin”.
The publication of André Ventura, who is also presidential candidate, was dated 21 August 2020 and the subject of a complaint by Letras Nómadas (Association for the Research and Promotion of Roma Communities) was accompanied by a graphic about the “main sources of income of individuals by age group”.
“The truth always prevails. Almost 90 percent of the Roma community lives on 'other things' than their own work. As long as we do not realise that there is a structural problem of benefits dependence, it will continue to grow uncontrollably”, wrote the leader of Chega at the time.
André Ventura has constantly attacked the Roma community in Portugal and, on 16 November, in an interview with TVI, he even put it as a condition for enabling an extreme-right government to “resolve the issue of Roma”.
