Austria: Whoever does not receive the coronavirus vaccine cannot get a job

The Austrian province of Salzburg will only employ people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in hospitals and nursing homes.
"In our hospitals there is already a de facto obligation to vaccinate, because the immunization status is checked before employment and the missing vaccines must be received later," explained Salzburg Health Secretary and Vice-President Christian Steckl.
That principle, he added in a statement to the Vienna-based weekly Profil, would apply during new hires when the coronavirus vaccine appears.
Steckle wants mandatory immunization against coronavirus not only for hospitals and nursing homes, but also for staff in kindergartens and schools in Salzburg.
He ordered a check on the legal possibilities.
However, there is no possibility of introducing mandatory coronavirus vaccination for the approximately 15,000 people who are currently actively employed in hospitals and nursing homes.

Protest action in Bitola: "Roma are not boxing bags - stop the violence against Roma"

A civil initiative in Bitola with guerrilla action expressed its protest against the brutal beatings of Roma by uniformed police officers in recent months, but also in general against the violence of civilians against Bitola Roma, something that has been going on for a long time. "Boxing bags" with stickers and banners were placed in many places, as well as signs saying "Roma are not boxing bags - stop the violence against Roma". The propaganda material was placed in a public space in the city near the places where the last incidents took place.
"Violence against Roma in Bitola has been going on for more or less years and is present in the public without any serious reactions from the competent institutions. Unfortunately, the last attacks in the past 2-3 months, in which members of the Roma community were brutally beaten for no particular reason, were carried out by uniformed police officers on duty from the Bitola police station. It is unforgivable and should not be silenced! Every citizen should condemn and fight against this type of violence! That is why we created this action in order to speak publicly and to remind the public of these problems, most of which still have no solution. "Unfortunately, our city Bitola is one of the cities in Macedonia with the highest percentage of violence against Roma who are victims not only of the police, but also of many local thugs who pour their anger and frustration on our fellow Roma every day," said the activists.

A NEW EU STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK: A Roadmap for Achieving Equality and Roma Inclusion by 2030An online discussion was held last week on the importance of the new EU Strategic Framework for Roma Equality, Inclusion and Participation 2020-2030, and in particular on the fight against anti-Gypsyism, Roma inclusion policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and how the requirements of the Framework The EU could be transferred to the socio-political context in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies is to provide an opportunity to step up problem-solving and Roma integration activities. This is more important in the current context as the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed extreme exposure of excluded and marginalized Roma communities to negative health and socio-economic impacts. In October this year, under the German Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Commission launched a new Framework by which the German government committed itself to supporting beyond 2020 and strengthening the fight against anti-Gypsyism as a specific form of racism in Europe.

Czech TV show portrays Roma as nothing but criminals

Until recently, the crime-focused news program "Krimi zprávy" was almost the only one on television to depict Romani people in the Czech Republic. Before that, in the days of communist Czechoslovakia, we had the program called "The Federal Criminal Bureau is on the Watch" (Federální kriminální ústředna pátrá).
Currently Romani people are "popular" in a program called "Police in Action" (Policie v akci) on Prima TV, and they're not playing any secondary roles, either, but are equally (well, almost) the central figures! Let's set the record straight, though.
The central characters in this program are, naturally, police officers. The show features bad actors and bad consultants, because what it portrays has as much to do with actual police work as a local tennis champion from Olomouc has in common with Rafael Nadal.
The tragedy is that the people appearing on the program are actually police officers, either currently on duty or retired, or maybe they are members of municipal patrols - which is why I understand the screenwriters even less, who have turned the program's reconstrutions of police interventions into a mixture of comedy and embarrassment. Nevertheless, this awkwardness is all based on situations in which viewers can find all the "proof" they need to shore up their convictions that Romani people are all thieves, screaming lowlifes, thugs and abductors of children.
