Croatia: Franjo Horvat and Veljko Kaitazi are going for the position of Roma MP in the Croatian Parliament. Horvat says: "Kaitazi has not manipulated for years"

One of the pieces of information during this pre-election period in Croatia was the information that Franjo Horvat and Veljko Kaitazi will face Roma in the Croatian Parliament in constituency 12.

"This constituency elects a pro-government representative for 12 national minorities (Roma, Austrian, Bulgarian, German, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vlach and Jewish)," Horvat said, adding that the Roma minority was the largest.

Horvat is the president of the Union of Croatian Roma Bajaji and chairman of the Board of the Roma minority in Koprivnica County. He is Roma - Bajash who is 90% of the total number of Roma in Croatia.

"With years of manipulation, Kaitazi has managed to keep this group in the shadows and the Bajak language has been completely forgotten."

Renovation of the houses of Roma families in the municipality of Vinica has started

From 11.06.2020, the first phase of reconstruction and renovation of 11 houses of the most endangered Roma families in the municipality of Vinica began.

Within the project, it is planned to renovate a total of 22 houses that are in the worst and most harmful living conditions. In the following period, 11 more houses will be renovated as a second phase.

At the same time, we are actively working on the legalization of more than 200 homes of Roma families who are socially disadvantaged and have not yet resolved their housing issue.

It is also starting with the procedure of adopting a detailed urban plan for block 18 for the entire Roma settlement in the municipality of Vinica. This will finally solve the long-standing problem with the uncertainty of housing and infrastructure of more than 700 Roma families in the municipality of Vinica.

These activities are implemented within the project "Providing decent housing conditions for the Roma community in the municipality of Vinica-SDH" financially supported by the European Union. The project is implemented by CELIM from Milan - Italy, the Roma Resource Center from Skopje, and the municipality of Vinica.

RRC together with its strategic partners will continue to work to improve the quality of housing and life of the Roma community
