Syndrome or? "Steeling the torture of members of the Roma community"

The growing trend of right-wing parties and their ideology is expanding in Europe.
Semitism, anti-Gypsyism, police excessive use of force, ghettoization, discrimination in all walks of life, and the perfidious "invisible discrimination" hidden under the cloak of law, which is unfortunately a daily occurrence in the Roma community.
These developments are making the Roma community in a very problematic and difficult period, where the survival of the largest minority in Europe is being questioned.
Whether we like it or not, those in power in almost all EU member states are confronted daily with journalistic information about the violation of the basic human rights of the Roma community. When it comes to the territory of the Balkans, there is nothing with a better picture, and it is safe to say that there is a huge problem, from the implementation of all international resolutions, to the growing wave of vandalism against the Roma community.
The recent incident and the use of excessive police force in Bitola-Macedonia is just one example of how Roma are being treated.
Is this the end of the problem? No! After those events, we witnessed the spread of hate speech towards the Roma community through social networks, photos and sending threats to people who took part in the protests, pressure on the NGO sector by a certain Zoran Hristovski.
Is it time to be silent, or to raise our voice again!

Non-legally binding working definition of antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination

Acknowledging with concern that the neglect of the genocide of the Roma has contributed to the prejudice and discrimination that many Roma** communities still experience today, and accepting our responsibility to counter such forms of racism and discrimination (Articles 4 and 7 of the IHRA 2020 Ministerial Declaration, article 3 of the Stockholm Declaration), the IHRA adopts the following working definition of antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination:
Antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination is a manifestation of individual expressions and acts as well as institutional policies and practices of marginalization, exclusion, physical violence, devaluation of Roma cultures and lifestyles, and hate speech directed at Roma as well as other individuals and groups perceived, stigmatized, or persecuted during the Nazi era, and still today, as “Gypsies.” This leads to the treatment of Roma as an alleged alien group and associates them with a series of pejorative stereotypes and distorted images that represent a specific form of racism.
To guide the IHRA in its work, the following is being recognized:
Antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination has existed for centuries. It was an essential element in the persecution and annihilation policies against Roma as perpetrated by Nazi Germany, and those fascist and extreme nationalist partners and other collaborators who participated in these crimes.
Antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination did not start with or end after the Nazi era but continues to be a central element in crimes perpetrated against Roma. In spite of the important work done by the United Nations, the European Union, the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other international bodies, the stereotypes and prejudices about Roma have not been delegitimized or discredited vigorously enough so that they continue to persist and can be deployed largely unchallenged.
Antigypsyism /anti-Roma discrimination is a multi-faceted phenomenon that has widespread social and political acceptance. It is a critical obstacle to the inclusion of Roma in broader society, and it acts to prevent Roma from enjoying equal rights, opportunities, and gainful social-economic participation. Otherwise, at its Parliamentary Session of the IRU, a strong commitment was made at this meeting not to rename the wording Antigypsyism
in a different form of the word.

Major human rights abuses against Roma seen during lockdown measures

The Roma Rights in the time of COVID’ report came out just ahead of the publication of a key EU legislative proposal focused on fighting anti-gypsyism across Europe.
In the report, ERRC recorded major rights violations in 12 European countries – Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine. “Whilst no one was looking, vulnerable Romani communities were being brutalised by racist police officers, forcefully evicted from their homes, scapegoated by the far-right, denied equal access to healthcare, and left out of emergency policy-making,” the report said. “Their children were being denied access to education, their neighbourhoods closed off and quarantined, all while a hostile media, starved of tabloid content, demonised them for cheap clicks,” the report added. The pandemic has worsened the situation of marginalised Romani communities living in overcrowded and inhuman conditions, which are already more at risk due to limited access to healthcare, drinking water, sanitation and food.
On top of that, Roma were also among the groups the worst affected by the economic and social knock-on effects of the pandemic, the report warned.

Belgrade: Couple beaten on bus convinced they were attacked just because they are Roma

At the beginning of October, two Roma were beaten in a bus on the road to Batajnica. The girl who witnessed the event is convinced that the couple survived the torture only because they are from the Roma community. The epilogue is not known yet, because the Ministry of Interior has no answer for this case.
Instead of a birthday party on October 1 for Velibor Trajkovic and his wife Halisa, it turned into hell. At the end of the working day at the market, by bus number 706 they left for Batajnica where they live.
"In an attempt to find a vacancy, they were prevented in the most brutal way. "I asked him if I could sit down, he immediately attacked me with his fists. Then my husband wanted to stop him in his attack. "Then he turned to him and started punching and kicking him," said Harisa Trajkovic.
All passengers were witnesses, but only Milica Marianovi. Stood in their protection.
Quite by accident, they noticed the police officers who were at a bus station. When they got off the bus, the assailant changed his statement, saying that he had been attacked because they had tried to rob him.
"Then Milica addressed the police with the words: 'Let's see how much money this man has?', And when they took out his backpack it was obvious that he had no money," said Halisa.
The assailant was released with the explanation that he had nothing illegal in his possession and received only an oral assurance that charges would be filed, without the opportunity to personally report the incident to the police station.
This incident otherwise has elements of hatred and the institutions need to react, say the organization A11.
