Shuto Orizari celebrates 24 years since its establishment as a municipality

ShutoOrizari began to develop after the catastrophic 1963 earthquake. After the reconstruction of Skopje and its surroundings, the place of today's settlement begins to be inhabited mainly by the Roma population. Today, ShutoOrizari is one of the suburbs of today's Skopje. With the gradual shaping of the settlement, the Municipality of SutoOrizari begins to get the appearance of an urbanized suburban neighborhood. Over time, SutoOrizari acquires its own administrative and cultural institutions. In 1996, ShutoOrizari together with the two villages around it - Gorno and DolnoOrizari, formed an independent administrative unit - the municipality of ShutoOrizari.Municipality of ShutoOrizari - a municipality within the City of Skopje and the only Roma municipality in the world in which Roma have their own mayor and can exercise their national rights. The municipality is located in the northern part of the city of Skopje. According to the last census, the Municipality of ShutoOrizari has 17,357 inhabitants, of which. Of that, 60.6% are Roma, 30.3 Albanians, Macedonians are 6.5%. Most of them over 15 thousand are Muslims. The current mayor of the municipality is KurtoDudush. The center of the municipality is the settlement of the same name. The municipality borders the Municipality of Butel to the south and the Municipality of Cucer-Sandevo to the north.

I got credit on the third try, only when I changed my last name

It was not an easy step. It was necessary to endure mocking throws in the style of "What do you think you are better than us?" or “Are you ashamed to be Roma?”. But I was determined. As soon as he got a job, I started looking for a house outside the Roma settlement in Pribislavec, says DubravkoKovacic

It turned out that it was easier for him to find a job than to get the most ordinary loan in a bank. He had an indefinite contract with Ivan Todorić, a company that worked as a supplier for Agrokor, but bank officials rejected him twice. Then Dubravko decided to change his surname from Oršuš to Kovačić. He went to the bank with the same documents and look at the miracles, the loan was approved on the third attempt. - Such were the times then ... - he says, although only eight years have passed since "those times". In those eight years, Dubravko (34) and his two-year-younger wife Anđelka had, in addition to the eldest Aleksandar, two more children, a daughter Lana and a son Lovro. They all live in a house in the village of Mackovac in Međimurje, the one they bought with a loan they are repaying. There is no future in the ghetto - When I started working, I immediately said I would leave the settlement. And it was like that. I have seen that there is no future in a Roma settlement that is separate from that of the majority population.

Dubravko's and Anđelka's 12-year-old son Aleksandar became a real little media star thanks to his talent for painting. - As a child in kindergarten, I got inspiration. I won a lot of awards, I even traveled to Pula, for a drawing on the topic of firefighting. I like dry pastels, graphite pencils, oil on canvas ... - he says, showing us a drawing of a Mercedes. Sam earned money for his first cell phone because citizens gave him cash prizes for the pictures he exhibited at events.

- Everything I imagine, I can draw. My favorite is the portrait of President KolindaGrabar-Kitarović that I gave her when we were in Zagreb - says the boy who will go to the sixth grade in the fall. As his father loved the violin very much, he began to practice playing as well.

Czech capital to see new Center for the Roma and Sinti, meant to serve the general public

A new Center for the Roma and Sinti is going to be established in Prague. The Museum of Romani Culture is building the facility in the Dejvice neighborhood, where it will be housed in a First Republic-era villa.

The center will offer concerts, exhibitions by Romani artists, film screenings and lectures. The program will focus not just on the history of the Roma, but also on the current position of this minority and on coexistence with the majority society.

The leadership of the museum gave a presentation yesterday on the future institution in Prague. It is currently scheduled to open on 1 March 2023.

"The center will offer room for Romani people from all over the republic and from different groups to gather. However, it is not just for Romani people, it is for the general public. We are counting on holding intercultural events here, debates about contemporary coexistence. That is one of the important aspects of the project. We are promising to enter into dialogue with the public here. We are promising a shift in relationships," museum director Jana Horváthová told the Czech News Agency.

19 years after 9/11: The day that changed the world!

The hijacking of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington on September 11, 2001, is more than usual. They changed the world. After the fall of the Wall, the West did something like break. Renowned political scientist Francis Fukuyama declared "the end of history" and politicians fantasically spoke of a "peace dividend". And on September 9, 2001, the first attack on American territory after Pearl Harbor took place. From the skies - in a literal and figurative sense. It's still a source of uncertainty to many today, a day that will resonate for a long time in the century that has just begun. the restriction of the private sphere, for cuts in the field of human rights or international law by the United States.

9/11 was more than a historic moment. It was a day that highlighted the underlying motive of the century - the fight against terror.
