There is no place for Roma, Bosniaks, Vlachs, Serbs among the deputy ministers in the Macedonian government.

Nine Albanians, six Macedonians and two Turks are on the list of deputy ministers proposed by the government and should be elected by the Assembly.

Among the people from the so-called second echelon it is evident that there is no place for Roma, Bosniaks, Vlachs or Serbs, although as smaller communities they are about 7% of the total population in the country.

Only from the smaller communities, only the Turkish one has a proposal for two deputies. In Labor and Social Policy and in Political Systems Inter-Community Relations. They are Enver Hussein and Ilhan Rahman.

There has been speculation about the name from the Roma community, in the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, but so far it has neither been confirmed nor disclosed.

The conclusion is that either the Roma political factor was not a worthy player to negotiate positions, or the government does not trust the Roma community. There is no third. After 17 years (from 2003 onwards) it happens that this with the Roma community has no representative in either the first or the second echelon of the Executive.

"Equal society for all." Super progress of the Roma community in Macedonia!

European Roma Rights Centre reports on human rights violations against Romani people during the pandemic this spring

The report, entitled "Roma Rights in the Time of COVID", demonstrates the degeree to which Romani people were affected by discrimination and institutional racism during the first half of 2020.

"From February to June 2020, when the attention of the world was focused on the COVID-19 illness, Romani people were being attacked and harassed by racist police officers, were being forcibly evicted, scapegoated by ultra-right political parties and denied access to health care," the ERRC says in the report, which describes the situation in Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Moldavia, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine. The report describes in detail how Romani children were denied access to education, how the quarantining of Romani people was undertaken in some countries, and how some media outlets used deceptive, exaggerated allegations that led to the demonization of Romani communities.

The report also contains recommendations both to the European Commission and to individual states on how to address the questions of systemic discrimination that affect Romani people. The ERRC has called on international bodies to make sure emergency measures do not become routine during the pandemic.

Genocide of Sinti and Roma: Concentration camp survivor Zilli Schmidt: "At night I'm still in Auschwitz"

As a young woman, she survived the Nazi genocide of the Sinti and Roma: In a book, the 96-year-old Zilli Schmidt recalls what happened to her in the concentration camps, how her family was murdered - and how she managed it, all the horrors to survive.

This summer Zilli Schmidt celebrated her 96th birthday. The memory of that fateful August 2nd, 1944, torments her to this day. In the book “God has planned something for me! Memories of a German Sinteza ” . A moving contemporary witness report that arose from conversations with her and was authorized by her.

Zilli - as she calls herself in the book - comes from a family of German Sinti. The parents of the 1924 born Anton and Berta Reichmann, she had an older and a younger brother and two older sisters. In the summer the Reichmanns moved their caravans mainly through Thuringia and Bavaria, and during the winter they stayed in one place. The father ran a traveling cinema and performed as a musician, the mother peddled haberdashery and fine lace. "We have had a happy, a good life", is how Zilli describes her childhood.

It was only in old age that this remarkable and, despite everything, fun-loving woman began to talk about her past. She sees telling her story as a mission. But that was not easy for her, as she emphasizes. The memories of the fate of her family, especially that of her child, are too painful. The idea of how their loved ones may have died torments them to this day.

The darkness of those terrible years has caught up with her even more since her husband is no longer alive. Especially at night, Zilli Schmidt's horrors come alive again: “I am alone and have time to think. And I do that now. And that's why I don't sleep some nights, because I'm always in Auschwitz. "
