Jasenovac is a taboo in Croatia

This year's absolute winner at the Pula Film Festival speaks to Diana Budisavljevic, an Austrian humanitarian and social activist who organized action to rescue 10,000 children from the Ustasha camps during World War II.

Dana Budisavljevic as co-screenwriter and director of the film said that the work on this project took ten years.

- The film primarily carries a strong message about humanity. It was a huge desire for me with this film to somehow not only save Diana from obliviously transferring her power through the film to the viewers.

Jasenovac is again a taboo topic every year. You probably know that we now have two separate commemorations.

There is no one in common with the current politics and representatives of the people who suffered in Jasenovac - Jews, Roma, Serbs, but on the contrary the president comes alone, and thus the situation around Jasenovac is not good.

Slovakia: Roma in some villages are excluded from the church

In Paschovska Nova Ves, Roma are not allowed to go to church even though they are Catholic. They are not allowed to attend missions along with other residents of the village.
In an attempt to change one of the priests, he was attacked and his car damaged.
- We were never told that we could come to church. We have always kept our Mass here outside, and when it was over we went into a house. We also gathered around 70-80 Roma here - says Andrei Cervenjak, a village elder.

Here the Roma have built a chapel with the support of Germany. On Saturday, instead of Sunday, comes priest Miroslav Turcik. They come here out of shame that they think they are poor and will be offended, Miroslav says.

Otherwise near the village of Jarishke Jastrebje, the priest summoned the Roma for a weekly Mass, but did not finish. The villagers rebelled against the arrival of the Roma and even damaged the priest's car.
Locals say there are people who are "allergic" to Roma.

- They say that the Roma did not participate in the construction of those churches, and that they have no right to come to them.
But I am optimistic that in the future there will be no divisions and no differences will be made between the people "noted Andrei Cervenjak.

German Govt approves measures to combat right-wing extremism, requires social media firms to report IP addresses of users making death threats

Last month the German Government approved a package of measures against right-wing extremism and the dissemination of hate through the Internet in response to the attack by a right-wing radical on a synagogue in Halle in the eastern part of the country. German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said he continues to consider right-wing extremism and terrorism to pose a significant threat.

Seehofer confirmed the danger when presenting the measures in Berlin. He reminded the public of the crimes committed after the turn of the millenium by the National Socialist Underground (NSU), a neo-Nazi group that murdered 10 people, most of whom were of Turkish origin, between 2000 and 2007, as well as the murder this year of Walter Lübcke, a politician with the governing Christian Democrats, to which a right-wing extremist has confessed.

The German authorities recorded the existence last year of 24 100 individual right-wing extremists, roughly half of whom (12 700) are prepared to use violence, according to counter-intelligence. Last year right-wing radicals in Germany committed a total of 20 431 felonies, slightly lower than the year before, when they committed 20 520 felonies.
