Scholarships for 315 Roma students enrolled in first grade

A total of 315 Roma students enrolled in first grade in the 2019/20 school year will be awarded a scholarship under the project "Regular Classes: Action for Inclusion of Roma in Primary Education".

The competition is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Open Society - Macedonia Foundation in cooperation with the Dendo you Center for Educational Support and the Step by Step Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives. The aim is to provide scholarships for inclusion of as many Roma children in primary education as they will regularly attend.

The competition is for a single school year, and the scholarship of 400 euros per year is intended to cover the costs of schooling, food, clothing, school supplies and materials, sports and other equipment for students.

Roma students enrolled in first grade in the 2019/2020 school year whose families are recipients of guaranteed minimum assistance but who are not beneficiaries of other EU-funded scholarships will be eligible to apply. In so doing, families will not lose the right to guaranteed minimum assistance.
Regular students, as well as those who successfully pass the next grade, will be able to maintain the scholarship for the current year and potentially renew it for the next two school years.

The application deadline is December 10, and more information on the competition can be found on the Open Society Foundation - Macedonia web site, then at the Open Society Foundation premises, by phone at 02/2477107 or by email redovnonacasovi @ fosm. mk.

Czech fan of ultra-nationalist party gets suspended sentence for wearing Nazi symbols to demonstration

A fan of the "Freedom and Direct Democracy-Tomio Okamura" (SPD) movement in the Czech Republic has been given six months in prison, conditionally suspended for two years, by the District Court in Prague 1 for displaying sympathy for a movement aimed at suppressing civil and human rights. In April this year the woman wore multiple pendants of the Nazi swastika to a demonstration convened by the SPD.

Pavla Hájková, spokesperson for the District Court for Prague 1, informed Czech Television of the news on 16 November. The verdict has taken effect.

"It was decided as follows: a prison sentence of six months, suspended for a probationary period of two years," Hájková told Czech Television, adding that the court's decision had already taken effect. The defendant did not appeal.

CCTV cameras captured the woman wearing the chains with the Nazi swastikas at the demonstration. They also captured 43-year-old Radek Mansfeld giving the Nazi salute - he has already been given a suspended sentence of six months in prison and fined CZK 30 000 - EUR 1 177 .

Pope criticizes politicians for spreading hatred towards gays, Roma and Jews

Pope Franjo said politicians who spread hatred towards gays, Roma and Jews reminded him of Hitler.

"It is no coincidence that the symbols that are typical of Nazism reappear," the pope said in his address to the international conference on criminal law.

He said that the speeches of some officials or of the government were reminiscent of Hitler's 1934 and 1936 speeches.

"Persecution of Jews, Roma and homosexuals today is typical and par excellence in a culture of rejection and hatred. It was done at the time, and it is happening more today," the Pope said.

Otherwise Pope Franjo did not name the politicians or states to which this criticism refers.

Residents of Vizbegovo protest, Helsinki and MTSC accuse of discrimination

Vizbegovo do not like the children of former "Ranka Milanovic" nearby
The house is currently home to three children, former residents of Ranka Milanovic's home, now in a small group home. They have recently moved here because the social has decided that this type of care will be more effective in their upbringing.

The three children of former "Ranka Milanovic" housed in the small group home in Vizbegovo have 24-hour supervision by experts. They receive for the first time a warm home and care that has so far been lacking in life. A few weeks before the children were moved to a house in Vizbegovo, all of their close neighbors were found in their homes.

But residents, on the other hand, also accused the center's employees of social networks of insulting them for disagreeing with their upbringing.

The Helsinki Committee responds and appeals to the residents of Vizbegovo to show empathy, understanding and acceptance for children moving to their surroundings, to a home that is not an institution and resembles a family environment, which is an essential prerequisite for their socialization and progress.
