Southern Serbia: Flooded Roma settlements in Leskovac, Vlasotince, Vladici Han and Surdulica

Heavy rains that have been falling for several days without interruption have raised river levels in several municipalities in southern Serbia and flooded settlements in the immediate vicinity of those rivers. Due to the heavy rains, the sewers could not collect all that water and now many streets, yards and basements in the lower parts of the cities, villages and municipalities are flooded.
Also, a large number of Roma settlements in the immediate vicinity of these rivers are flooded, with the fact that in the municipality of Vlasotince in one of the lower parts of the Roma settlement "Crn Marko" water has entered the dogs. Such is the situation in the Roma settlement in Lebane, in the settlement Slavko Zlatanovic in Leskovac as well as in the Roma settlements in Vladicki Han and Surdulica-Prekodolce.
According to information, videos and photos posted by the Roma from those neighborhoods, they say that they have not slept for several years, but have organized to be able to protect all the property from the home they have from the flood. This natural disaster has been reported to institutions, so that rescue services, fire brigades, and the police are now on the ground.

Best of the Romani musicians program BAŠAVEL in 2020, broadcast online by Czech NGO ROMEA

The online Romani musicians program BAŠAVEL on ROMEA TV offered unique guests and clips from the best performances of 2020 in the closing episode of the series. In addition to performances, the program features an interview with Miro Bartoš, a Romani opera singer who spent part of his childhood in a children's home in the Czech Republic and is now a professional soloist with a theater ensemble in Plzeň.
"Leaving home changed my life and that of my sister. If we had stayed at home we would never have gone to college and gotten the jobs of our dreams," the singer told ROMEA TV.
Milan Kroka, a musician who is a favorite on the Romani music scene in the Czech Republic, is interviewed about  what music means to him. "I haven't always just been a musician. I had to do manual labor too. When things were the very worst, I went to work in a factory as a tool grinder. Music is my life. It's a difficult craft, and when it's not done with love, honestly, people can tell," the composer, producer and vocalist told ROMEA TV.
The final episode of BAŠAVEL for 2020 also featured Terezie Ondičová alias Tessie, who has competed in the nationally televised singing competition The Voice; the young Romani musician from Slovakia Richard Adam alias Vajdis; Karin Cinová, Robert Boldi, Ondrej Ferko & Ondra Gizman, Jr; and the Galiani Gypsy Jazz band. According to the announcements, the next census in R.N. Macedonia should be held in April 2021. I should not mention that this statistical census operation is very important for the Roma community, except for the others. Like it or not, the importance is imposed and in our country the numbers that will solve many other important state, social and political benefits are very important. According to the last census, Roma were about 2.6% or just over 56 thousand Roma.
According to estimates by the Roma NGO sector, that number is now almost 80% higher and the number is close to 100,000 Roma. In April 2021, it is important for everyone who registers to declare what they really are.
We are also witnesses that a large number of Roma like it or not, all these years they have "melted2" into everything else but not the Roma. Such a trend is in western Macedonia where in the past they merged into Albanians, in the Vardar region into Macedonians, and in the east and southeast into Turks.
In my opinion, it is time to change this habit. If we want greater prosperity of the Roma community in the country, we need to become aware and be what we have been for centuries, and that is Roma. That is why I think that all of us Roma, regardless of political, religious or social affiliation and status, should say clearly and loudly who we are. That is why it is necessary to make a campaign that can facilitate this decision. That campaign should be titled "Do not be afraid, do not be ashamed of who you are. The number of Roma is important “Only in this way will such a campaign motivate and encourage this suffering marginalized people to declare themselves as they are / Roma.
It's time to open our eyes, it's time to stop manipulating numbers. It is time to know the exact number in the segments of administrative representation. This figure is also important for shaping the future strategy of the Roma, for their representation in all state institutions, for employment and political representation in both the Parliament and the Government. Because the Roma still pay taxes and all taxes to the state and are not spared anything. The truth can be reached with courage and openness.
That is why the census in April 2021 is very important for the future of all nations, as well as for the Roma in the country. Because that representation will also depend on the state level. And that representation can also contribute to the progress of the country, and thus to the Roma community. The number is important because the EU wants it too. Malchan barber in Serbia sentenced to life in prison

Ninoslav Jovanovic, better known as Malchanski barber, was sentenced to life in prison for abusing a minor girl from Brzi Brod. The verdict was first instance and was passed in the High Court shortly after 11 am, in the presence of the family of the injured minor, as well as numerous journalists. Jovanovic was not present at the trial.
Jovanovic did not attend the sentencing.
The lawsuit against Jovanovic, 46, better known as the barber from Malkan because he cut his victims' hair, was closed to the public to protect the interests of the minor.
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis filed charges against Jovanovic at the end of March last year, but due to the protection of the interests of the juvenile victim in this case, the legal qualification of the crime he is charged with was not announced. The investigation against Jovanovic was conducted due to the criminal acts of kidnapping and rape of a child, for which he is threatened with imprisonment from ten years to life imprisonment.
Jovanovic has already been jailed twice for rape, kidnapping and abuse, once for 10 years and a second time for 12 years. He kidnapped the last victim on December 20, 2019, on the way to school. He hid with her in abandoned houses and cottages on the move from Nis to Knjazevac. The girl was found on December 28, 2019 in Pasjaca, near Nis, after a chase involving members of the Ministry of Interior and the Army of Serbia, the gendarmerie and numerous associations of citizens, hunters and mountaineers. Seven days later, Jovanovic was caught in the village cemetery in his native village of Malca.
The parents of the girl Monica.K themselves say that they are satisfied with the verdict.
