26 years since the establishment of the Municipality of Shuto Orizari
In 1996, Shuto Orizari together with the two surrounding villages — Gorno and Dolno Orizari, formed an independent administrative unit — the municipality of Shuto Orizari.
Shuto Orizari began to develop after the catastrophic earthquake of 1963. After the reconstruction of Skopje and its surroundings, the place where today's settlement is located, the predominantly Roma population began to settle. Today, Shuto Orizari is one of the outskirts of today's Skopje. With the Gradual Shaping of the settlement, the Municipality of Shuto Orizari begins to take on the appearance of an urbanized suburban neighborhood. Over time, Shuto Orizari acquires its own administrative and cultural institutions.
The municipality of Shuto Orizari is part of the City of Skopje and is the only Roma municipality in the world in which the Roma have their own mayor and can exercise their national rights. The municipality is located in the northern part of the territory of the city of Skopje. The current mayor of the municipality is Kurto Dudush. The previous mayors of Shuto Orizari were: Nezhdet Mustafa, Erduan Isein, and Elvis Bayram. Amdi Bajram also got the post of mayor, but due to serving a prison sentence in Shuto Orizari, he had to be re-elected.
