Violence in Strumica, hate speech and misinformation

Igor Vckov from Strumica was brutally beaten a few days ago, he was beaten with bats and fists from a group of 10 people in the center of Strumica. The video which was published on the Facebook Page StrumicaOnline, shows a large group of people beating down Vckov, but it can be also seen that another young person (probably a young boy) was being beaten. The scenes seen in the video are due to another altercation which started in a casino, which according to comments and witnesses on social media was initiated due to the fact that the “Gypsies from Banica” were disturbing the female employee in the casino, and that is why they were beaten. Vckof has posted on Facebook that he was in the casino to play, and before he began to play, he asked the employee to bring him a beer. After some time, he asked for another beer, to which the employee said that he can’t have another. Afterwards, according to his testimonial, a physical altercation with the security of the casino happened. The fight continued in the center of Strumica where he was brutally beaten. He also said that the attackers were a part of the “Security of Zaev” and he called the Prime Minister and the institutions to solve the case. The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Strumica has formed a case for the event in the center of Strumica, when several individuals were part of a physical altercation. “Guidelines and orders have been issued to the competent authorities for submitting data and establishing the identity of the persons who participated in the event. "The prosecution continues to take continuous actions in order to clear up the event," as stated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Tanya Hristova is among the five finalists for the prestigious Young European of the Year award! She is the only Roma activist among the five finalists

If someone asks me about an inspiring person I have met in the last year, my answer will be very simple. I won’t think much about it. Tanya Hristova impressed me very much and not only me. She is like a solar energy battery that has gathered a huge heart in a fragile and tender body. And an energy that never seems to end. It was not only us and institutions at the national level that evaluated it. She is one of the five finalists in the Young European of the Year competition, organized by the Schwarzkopf Young Europe Foundation, in which the Amalipe Center nominated her. But let me tell you more about her and you will find out for yourself why she is among the nominees in the competition and why she is our winner.

Tanya is 24 years old, she was born in the town of Kotel, where she completed her secondary education as a flag bearer and an excellent student in 2015 in her high school “Georgi St. Rakovski ”, with a profile“ Natural and Mathematical Sciences ”. Serbia – Cukarica: The landfill is getting cleaned, the settlement is full of fear – After the electricity accident in the unhygienic zone, rainfall has brought new troubles

At the informal settlement in Chukarica, at the corners of the Galipolska and Milorad Jovanovikj streets where several days ago, seven children were severely injured after an electricity accident, the situation is much worse due to heavy rainfall.

Due to the fact that in this part of the city, several houses were caught in a fire, all of the remaining people gathered in the remaining houses, which due to the rain, the rooms are wet and pose a huge threat for the Roma from this settlement. The road which leads to this place is in a very bad shape, and the houses are hard to reach.

 - The roof is leaking, the beds are totally wet, complain the Roma from this informal settlement.

- Almost every family has over 5 children, and they are all together in 15 square meters, a space which sometimes has 10 people in it.

The living conditions are impossible, it is hard to survive. We don’t have any money for food and basic everyday groceries.

We’ve moved here 10 years ago. We previously lived on Banovo Brdo, but they relocated us from there due to the construction of residential buildings. We make a living by collecting secondary waste materials. And now, even that is impossible. After the accident, we were visited by officials and the possibility to get us some containers was discussed. Out of the seven injured children aged from three to fifteen years, four of them are still in a critical condition.

Czech hospital refuses to examine young Romani man - by the time doctors agreed to see him, he died

Czech Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old Romani man, Viktor M., at a hospital in Chomutov. According to the young man's family, neither the emergency room nor the internal medicine clinic would initially take him as a patient.

After each part of the hospital tried to send Viktor M. somewhere else, the internal medicine clinic finally began to examine him, at which point he collapsed. According to Lukáš M., brother to the deceased ViktorM., several paramedics told Viktor M. that he was faking his symptoms. The family has insisted that police investigate. Viktor M. experienced difficulty breathing, chest pain, and tingling in one arm on Monday, 15 March. "We called ahead to the emergency room. They told us to bring him in. Once we were there, they told us to take him to the internal medicine clinic. They said he was young and certainly would not collapse," Lukáš M. described to the Blesk tabloid.    Viktor M. arrived at the hospital at about 17:30, but the emergency room does not open until 18:00. Reportedly the internal medicine clinic did not want to examine him either.

A call was then placed to the emergency room from the internal medicine clinic, and the emergency room repeated that they would not take Viktor M. as a patient. Lenka Ferencová, a cousin of Viktor M. who accompanied him and his other family members to the hospital, confirmed that to Czech Television.

Viktor M. is survived by his common law wife and three-year-old daughter; he worked as a taxi driver. His father died at the end of February from COVID-19.
