BiH - Elections 2020: Roma women did not have equal access to the media during the campaigns

Local elections were recently held in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Citizens elected local government in 142 local communities - 120 municipalities and 22 cities, at a total of 5,800 polling stations. Mayors and mayors of municipalities and cities, members of municipal and city councils, as well as members of the Brčko District Assembly were elected.
A detailed analysis conducted by the Association of Young Roma "AKSIOM" found that 20 Roma women and 47 Roma were on the lists, which was not the case in the previous elections. Despite this large number of candidates, only six Roma managed to achieve good results and enter municipal councils as councilors.
What is particularly worrying is that no Roma women were elected, although there were councilors elected in previous elections.
An activist and fighter for women's rights, Jadranka Miličević, commented on the past elections as very rude and dirty, and that the Covid crisis was used as it suited to the issue of election campaigns.
- I have information that the candidates were insulted, humiliated as women within their political parties. And if we pay special attention to Roma women, I don't think it was the right way, nor did the political parties meet them to work on their promotion as candidates and as people who are important to the local community. But since I like to talk about Roma women, about women candidates, I think that they did not have equal access to the media or representation during the election campaigns - said Milicevic.

MP Latifa Shikovska to Romalitico and AVAJA: "In a tendentious way you are ruining my reputation as an MP." Romalitico and AVAJA respond: "You get paid as an MP"

These days, on the social networks, there is a current "shootout" via Facebook on the relationship between Latifa Shikovska, Member of Parliament, on the occasion of a Facebook post by the Institute for Policy Research and Analysis - Romalitico and the Avaja movement.
MP Shikovska reacts to the fact that Romalitico and Avaja - "By the very fast in an insidious and tendentious way you want to ruin my reputation as an MP. I wonder? "Is this how Romalitico and Avaja are trying to win the sympathy of the Roma community and justify their own passivity and ignorance?"
And the occasion was noted in the first part of Shikovska's FB post which says: "Dear representatives of Romalitico and Avaja! You are late! The request for submitting an amendment should have been submitted to me much earlier because I would have to submit it to the Parliament by Friday, November 20, 2020 at the latest. "I am sincerely surprised and revolted. I REACT to the post on the social network Facebook, with which you publicly call me and ask me to submit an Amendment to the Budget of the Republic of North Macedonia for 2021."
Shikalovska did not remain "obliged" to this reaction either by Romalitico and Avaja on their part say that: "If someone wanted to discredit your position, Avaja would have come out with a direct position that you have reduced the budget for Roma twice and you are not proposed an amendment to increase it. And when you already call your colleagues illiterate and passive, I ask you if you reacted in time and what is the result. "
The other comments were also divided. Some mentioned that it is still not an obligation for someone else to take money (MP salary of 1000 euros), and others to make analyzes regarding the rebalance of budgets and the like.
Another comment was that: “For formal informal groups, they did not react, it is the same, because after the project they will write an activity: an amendment submitted. Now late or not, the project activity has been completed.
It is a fact that such "fights" are not in favor of either side. The budget for the implementation of the plans of the Roma strategy for 2021 has been reduced by 26%. Whether the reaction is delayed or not, the Roma are the collateralizes. It's time to play card "unity" instead of "disunity"

Roma women also say: STOP VIOLENCE!

The 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women campaign started on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and will run until December 10. when International Human Rights Day is celebrated.
Violence is particularly pronounced among the population and in areas where vulnerable groups are present, including the Roma community. Romani women are repeatedly exposed to such violence because they are discriminated against, mostly uneducated, unemployed and economically dependent.

2020 was turbulent due to the Covid Pandemic 19. Due to the changes in the way of life, they also contributed to problems for the realization of women's rights. . In parallel with the Campaign for Social and Health Protection # Stay Home, where home was one of the safest places, new problems arose. Roma women in particular, with their isolation and physical distance, meant a greater risk of domestic violence.
Violence against Roma women in many parts of the world occurs daily and at home and at work at school, on the street, on social networks and others.
Otherwise, violence against women is considered to prevent women from taking part in all aspects of social life such as - politics, culture, social, economy.

Roma from the Nis settlement on February 12 ask themselves: "How long will this uncertainty last?"

Nis Roma settlement Bulevar 12 February, where about 100 Roma live, of which 40 are children, half of whom attend primary school in a nearby school. A dozen elderly people also live in it. The average social income of 23 families from this settlement is from 80 to 150 euros.

They have been living in darkness without electricity for about 2 months. So far, they have received only twice as many food and hygiene kits from the Red Cross and the Help organization. The other day, they asked for a one-time financial aid to buy food, because the food they had in the refrigerators had already spoiled.

Otherwise, the problem started at the start of 2020, where in the middle of winter they were without electricity for 60 days. , but thanks to some activities that problem was overcome.

The debt for electricity was paid but unfortunately not by everyone. The shutdown occurred without notice.

The debt is huge, and now it is uncertain how this problem can be solved, because the Roma did not respect the previous agreement made in March 2020, and now it is not known how this problem can be solved. And winter is already on the doorstep.
