First Roma cooperative - raspberry and blackberry growers get placement more easily

The first Roma agricultural cooperative in the Kolubara area was founded in the village of Konjić near Osečina. The agricultural cooperative "Malinari" Konjic, which was established with the help of the consulting company GFA, within the framework of the program of the German Development Agency - GIZ "Inclusion of Roma and other marginalized groups in Serbia", brings together raspberry and blackberry growers, the portal writes. Agromedia. .

The director of the newly formed cooperative, Sinisa Muratovic, says that the fruit growers of this village received support for the establishment of a social enterprise - a cooperative. He notes that thanks to the implementation of this program, the cooperative received agricultural equipment, and farmers received training with mentoring support for fruit production.

"There is currently no active cooperative in our region. We wanted to join forces because we think that together we can do much more and better. We planned to improve our business during the next year, to develop a network of subcontractors, as well as to present ourselves at agricultural fairs and fruit festivals," says Muratovic.

"After the communication that we managed to achieve with the president of the Roma Council, Mensur Shalya, we provided two young Roma with the needs of taking photos in connection with the campaign, as well as parts of the Roma costume," says the announcement of the CKM.

They emphasized that "they did not even think through that visual campaign in any way to hurt or discriminate"

It was announced after the meeting of the Board of Directors of their organization, which was held in Nikšić, where, as they say, they will analyze the public objections regarding their "Montenegro without divisions" campaign. The campaign of the project "Montenegro without divisions" caused reactions from most of the Roma, but also from other non-governmental organizations in Montenegro.

Roma Holocaust: The genocide of the Roma people in Lithuania

At the time of the World War II and the genocide of the Roma which has done great harm in Lithuania have left traces of the Roma memory. In 1942, Nazi Germany occupied Lithuania on the beginning of the mass detention of Roma arrests, they were transported to concentration camps and work in Germany and France. Approximately, a thousand Roma people were deported from Lithuania, and most of them came back.

The Roma have been killed and in the territory of Lithuania. Most Roma were killed in Pravieniškės, as well as near Švenčionys, in Šalčininkai district. Evidence were found in documents, which show that the majority of Roma in Vilnius were killed in Kirtimai, and the number of victims is unknown. Nazi Germany’s occupation in Lithuania, killed at least 500 Roma, or roughly every third Lithuanian Roma. It is known, that Nazi killed families of Roma travellers which they meet on the road. However, it was not indicated in the reports and documents, and therefore supposed that this number may be higher.

Each year, on August 2, the Lithuanian Roma non-governmental organisations commemorate Roma holocaust day. Together with the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania is seeking to include the August 2 day among other memorable days. It is proposed in order to promote an intercultural dialogue, increase the openness and tolerance of the society of Roma culture, with a view to a greater integration, mutual understanding, public education about Roma culture and history.
