Video advice on the compensation process for illegal sterilizations in the Czech Republic

As of 1 January 2022, the victims of the illegal sterilizations that were performed between 1 July 1966 and 31 March 2012 in the Czech Republic have been able to apply for compensation in the amount of CZK 300,000 [EUR 12,000]. Documenting the fact that an illegal sterilization has been committed is proving to be a problem for some applicants.

Hospitals may have already shredded many documents about such sterilizations in the interim. Moreover, according to news server Romea.cz, the Health Ministry is apparently rejecting testimonies from family members of the victims as evidence, even though such testimonies are mentioned in its own instructions as one possible kind of proof.

Victims have to demonstrate that their sterilization was performed in contravention of the law, i.e., that they either never agreed to be sterilized or that the circumstances under which their consent was given violated legal regulations.

The best evidence to submit is the medical record of the sterilization. As many applicants will not have a copy of their records, they can ask the ministry to find the documentation for them.

Azov Regiment

The Special Operations Detachment "Azov" is a unit of the National Guard of Ukraine formerly based in Mariupol, in the coastal region of the Sea of Azov, from which it derives its name. The unit was founded in May 2014 as a volunteer paramilitary militia under the command of Andriy Biletsky to fight pro-Russian forces in the Donbas War, and was formally incorporated into the National Guard on 11 November 2014.

The group has drawn controversy over its early and allegedly continuing association with both far-right groups and neo-Nazi ideology, its use of controversial symbols linked to Nazism, and allegations that members of the group have participated in torture and war crimes.

The regiment's size was estimated 900 to 2,500 combatants in 2017–2022. Most of the unit members are Russian speakers and come from the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine. It also includes members from other countries. In the wake of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the regiment gained renewed attention, as one of the reasons given by president of Russia Vladimir Putin for the invasion was the 'denazification' of Ukraine, to remove the alleged control of the country by far right forces such as Azov..

British authorities sentence couple who enslaved Romani youth to nine and 16 years in prison respectively

A British court has convicted and sentenced a couple who enslaved Romani youngsters from Slovakia for years in Bristol, England: Joanna G. of Poland has been sentenced to nine years and Maroš T. of Slovakia has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars. The couple were prosecuted in Britain for committing human trafficking and modern slavery.

The couple brought at least 29 people to the United Kingdom, some of whom had been raised in children's homes in Slovakia.

The couple promised the youngsters a better life in Britain. Instead, however, after the Romani youth made it to the British Isles, the couple confiscated their passports and forced them to work in a car wash or a nail salon.

The Romani youth were forced to work 16-18 hours a day, seven days a week. Death threats and physical violence were used by the couple to enslave them.

The workers were never paid the money they were promised. Britain's National Crime Agency reported that between 2010 and 2017, the couple withdrew almost GBP 300,000 from bank accounts opened in the names of the victims.

Maroš T. never paid the workers the equivalent of GBP 923,000 for their work at the car wash. If the victims had been paid minimum wage, that is how much money they would have made, according to the NCA.

Nadica Ademov: the best money is made at Roma weddings

Singer Nadica Ademov started singing 10 years ago when she appeared as a contestant in "Zvezda Granda". As he says, now he mostly performs at Roma weddings where he earns a lot of money.

And many of her colleagues earn their biggest tip precisely from these kinds of celebrations, and as Ademova says, she doesn't understand why they are ashamed of it.

"They can't wait to get an invitation to sing with my Roma, because they know that only they can pay as much as they cost," Nadica told Alo and continued:

"Many of them are duplicitous - when they come to a gig they kiss them on the mouth, and when they turn around they talk about anything and everything."
