Tyson Fury, a.k.a. "The Gypsy King", again defends his boxing title as world champion

The British boxer Tyson Fury knocked down his compatriot Dillian Whyte in the sixth round of the title match at London's Wembley Stadium to defend his WBC heavyweight championship belt. The 33-year-old winner recorded his 32nd victory in the professional ring, leaving undefeated.

Before the match, Fury announced that the fight with Whyte would be his last. "I promised my wonderful wife Paris that it would be over after this fight. I meant it," Fury said.

However, Paris has indicated that this may not have been Fury's last match. "I do want him to quit. He doesn't have to prove anything to anybody anymore. Just if there's a unification match. That's the only reason he would return to the ring," she said.

Fury earned about $ 32 million from this match. He was born in Manchester, England to a family of Irish Travelers

His father named him Tyson after world boxing champion Mike Tyson. Fury is proud of his background.

"I'm proud of who I am," he says of his origins. "I'm glad... My Traveler origins give me the determination and the will to win, to reach the bottom. There's no defeat in me. As a Traveler, I never regret anything. I know what to do and how to move on," he has previously said.

Czech regional governors accuse Romani refugee Ukrainians of "abusing" aid in the Czech Republic

Governor of the South Bohemian Region Martin Kuba (Civic Democratic Party - ODS) and Governor of the Pardubice Region Martin Netolický (Czech Social Democratic Party - ČSSD) claimed during a CNN Prima News program broadcast on 21 April that a "specific group" of people allegedly abusing social benefits has been coming to the Czech Republic from Ukraine. Although neither politician used the word "Roma" during the show, it was clear that they were talking about the Romani refugees fleeing Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The entire program started with a reportage on the Romani refugees living in tents at the Regional Assistance Center for Aid to Ukraine (KACPU) in Prague's Vysočany quarter. Both governors are thereby continuing the hateful rhetoric against Romani refugees that was begun by the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, Ivo Vondrák, who had previously accused Romani refugees from Ukraine of theft.

The police have said that they have not had to solve any such thefts. The Romea.cz news server found that Romani refugees were being automatically segregated by the Czech staff from all other refugees at Ostrava's refugee aid center.

Genocide against Roma and Sinti: The Power of Words - From Silence to Resistance

Many Sinti and Roma genocide survivors remained silent about their experiences for decades after the end of National Socialism. At the end of the silence was the beginning of a new writing of history.

Given the history of Roma and Sinti, which is characterized by persecution, the concept of "resistance" should be understood as a response to an environment that is considered inhumane and violent.

Resistance as solidarity

Systemic, state persecution and murder cost many lives. The freedom of groups and individuals is destroyed. This perspective of the victims is literally reflected in the Roma expression "Porrajimos", which means Holocaust and means "dismemberment". At the same time, it expresses the segregation that accompanied National Socialist terror: man was alone, separate from family, friends, most of society.

That is why in the Roma movement, resistance has a meaning that goes beyond the selfish will to survive, ie indicates non-renunciation of solidarity with other people - unity. Feelings of empathy in the inhuman system, sharing food, trying to save each other from death - these are all forms of resistance.

Raymond Gourmet (1925-2020) is the protagonist of such a resistance story: he escaped nine times from various camps in France where he was interned. He joined the French resistance movement and fought for the liberation of Paris.

A little known event is the Roma uprising of May 16, 1944 in the Auschwitz concentration camp - today also known as "Roma Resistance Day".

"You can not kill us. "You tried, but you did not succeed."

The Jochel Melanie Weiss family died in Nazi Germany because they were Sinti. This actress deals with this family trauma in the play "Roma City - City of the Free".

The play "Roma City" is based on the life story of Rita Prigmore and her late twin sister Rolanda. Rita is a member of the Sinti people and a Holocaust survivor. The topic is close to Joshla because her family was persecuted and killed. The Nazi regime shut down and isolated Sinti and Roma from society, many of whom were experimented with or deported to labor and concentration camps.

Joshla's grandfather was in Auschwitz. He managed to survive. Of the seven brothers and sisters, only one escaped. Her grandmother was in Camp Dachau and also survived. Joshla belongs to the third generation after Auschwitz. But the Nazi genocide of the Roma also left its mark.

The case with Joshla's family is not alone. But the consequences of the Nazi persecution of Roma and Sinti on future generations have not yet been fully explored.

At the end of the work, Joshla stands in the background. He looks directly at the audience and triumphantly says: "Did you know that the highest birth rate was in the post-war survival camps? You can not kill us. "You tried, but you did not succeed."
