Harsha – the first Indian King of Roma origins

Harsha (590-647), known as Harshavardhan, is the first Indian king who seems to have Roma origins. He was the leader of the Kingdom in Northern India from 600 to 647 year, whose center was in Tanesar (East Punjab – today’s Hariyana), and then in Kanauj (Utar Pradesh) and symbolizes the end of the period of the ancient and a beginning of middle age India.

Harsha gained respect and built authority in the battles against the White Huns. He was made famous by the successful solution in the clan conflicts, which were always present in the north of India. Due to those reasons, he became a Buddhist and enabled Kanausi to become a Buddhist Center. The state which we created was made in a centralistic model. The tragic family event whose causes were political and the win of the South Indian king Pulakeshin II (610 – 642), who entered in Malva, a region of special historical significance, causing shock and disbelief in the kingdom.

Bonn: A 7 year old Roma boy was put in a foster home. A protest in front of the office for social aid – Stop the traumatization of Roma children!

The Bonn Youth Care Office without any understandable reasons put the 7 year old Roma boy in foster care. His grandfather had the custody to this child since the birth of his grandson and came to Germany with the boy, he came from the Czech Republic three years ago. The man is 50 years old and he’s working here while the boy went to school.

In October 2020, the boy did not come home as usual. His grandfather called the school and found out: "Your nephew will not come home to you anymore." The Youth Welfare Office took him.

During the trial which was at the end of October, the custody of the grandfather was withdrawn, although the boy stated multiple times that he wants to stay with his grandpa. The report from the doctor also documented that the grandpa is the most important caretaker of the 7 year old boy. . There is no suspicion of abuse or other understandable reasons why the boy should not live with his grandfather. The man does not know in which orphanage his nephew is and has not seen him for four months, because the office for social work of the youth and the orphanage are preventing that.

The taking away of children from the authorities is a long tradition of institutional discrimination upon the Roma. That is why the protesters demand that the child is returned to his family!

Not many people know that Arif Heralikj was of Roma nationality, the famous image of the former Yugoslavian 10 Dinar Bill – Devaluation of a smile

On the 9th of January in 1968 TV Zagreb screened a short documentary film titled as “Devaluation of a smile”. The documentary was dedicated to Arif Heralikj, a miner who decorated the 10 Dinar bill in the times of former Yugoslavia. What many don’t know is the fact that Arif never gave his permission to use the picture and to print it on a bill, and an even less known fact is that many people don’t know his name, and also that he was of Roma nationality, he was often confused with Alija Sirotanovikj.

Heralikj raised his voice against the state and demanded compensation which he never got. He passed away in poverty and poor mental health which was the result of his fierce clash with the state.

This documentary was screened just once on TV and never again due to pressure from the state which claimed that the screening was a mistake, and the editor of the film program quit his position right after the screening of the film.
