The leader of NGI “Coalition of Egyptians” Demir Dalip: The public call for engagement of enumerators and regional instructors is discriminatory, we demand its annulment

The Public Call for engagement of regional enumerators and regional instructors is unconstitutional, due to the fact that it promotes discrimination and puts the Egyptians and all those ethnic communities that are not an integral part of the Constitutional Preamble in an unequal and subordinate role, says the leader of NGI Demir Dalip.

He states that in Ohrid, where the Egyptians are second in numbers, has no place for Egyptian enumerators, however, there are positions for Roma enumerators, 7 in total, although the number of Roma in Ohrid is less than 70, including the minors, there aren’t any in Resen nor in Struga.

-If we want a population Census to serve as a statistic operation, according to standards and rules of EUROSTAT and the UNITED NATIONS, these call should be nullified, and the Census to be postponed indefinitely, in order to not expose the population to risks of a COVID-19 infection. If, to this is added, that the country is in a state of crisis, all arguments are definitely aimed at prolonging the census. The Embassies of Germany, France, OSCE, EU are also informed about this situation. Like all citizens and Egyptians as loyal citizens of Macedonia, have the right to a credible, credible and objective census, said Dalip.

Chess player, age 11, is a Romani talent from Slovakia who is defeating adult competitors

News server Dobrénoviny.sk reports 11-year-old chess player Agáta Berková is achieving unprecedented success in competition and has even played Russian chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov to a draw after being trained by her father who, along with his chess team called "Hrochotskské jezdci" ("The Hippopotamus Riders"), has broken the stereotypical belief that Roma cannot play chess. Berková is a native of the Slovak town of Poltár, and her love of chess reportedly dates to the first time she sat behind a chessboard at the age of a year and a half.

Berková is being trained by her father Milan Berko, who is a single parent. He also shares his chess skills with other local children learning chess.

Most of the children Berko teaches are Romani. The skill gives them the prospect of a better future than they would most likely expect in life.

Do the Roma celebrate the Day of their Native language?

The international day of native language is celebrated all over the world, as a sign of remembering the students which were murdered on the 21st of February 1952 in Daki in Eastern Pakistan. The students protested about their language and why it hasn’t been official. The UNESCO in 1999 declared this day as the International Day of Native Language.

The Roma language and the activity to standardize it are worked upon in the past four or five decades. The declaration of the standardization of the Roma language was brought at the fourth IRU Congress which was held in 1990 in Warsaw, Poland and the directions were defined in order to nominate the standardization and codification of the Roma language.

The Roma language belongs to the Indo-European group of languages. The Roma language has 17 different dialects. The international day of native language is highlighted every year of the UN as the moment of language richness.

According to estimates of the UNESCO, there are around 6.000 languages around the world. Around 2500 of them are in danger of disappearing. “A sign which proves that one language is endangered is when the parents don’t talk to their children in their native language” There’s one Latin saying “Your knowledge of languages, shows your value” (Quot linguas calles, tot homines vales).
