New York/Geneva: In the COVID-19 vaccine race, we either win together or lose together

“Of the 128 million vaccine doses administered so far, more than three quarters of those vaccinations are in just 10 countries that account for 60 per cent of global GDP.

“As of today, almost 130 countries, with 2.5 billion people, are yet to administer a single dose.

“This self-defeating strategy will cost lives and livelihoods, give the virus further opportunity to mutate and evade vaccines and will undermine a global economic recovery.

“Today, UNICEF and WHO – partners for more than 70 years – call on leaders to look beyond their borders and employ a vaccine strategy that can actually end the pandemic and limit variants.

“Health workers have been on the frontlines of the pandemic in lower- and middle-income settings and should be protected first so they can protect us.

"COVAX participating countries are preparing to receive and use vaccines. Health workers have been trained, cold chain systems primed. What’s missing is the equitable supply of vaccines.

“To ensure that vaccine rollouts begin in all countries in the first 100 days of 2021, it is imperative that:

Governments that have vaccinated their own health workers and populations at highest risk of severe disease share vaccines through COVAX so other countries can do the same.

The Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, and its vaccines pillar COVAX, is fully funded so that financing and technical support is available to lower- and middle-income countries for deploying and administering vaccines. If fully funded, the ACT Accelerator could return up to US$ 166 for every dollar invested.

Vaccine manufacturers allocate the limited vaccine supply equitably; share safety, efficacy and manufacturing data as a priority with WHO for regulatory and policy review; step up and maximize production; and transfer technology to other manufacturers who can help scale the global supply.

“We need global leadership to scale up vaccine production and achieve vaccine equity.

“COVID-19 has shown that our fates are inextricably linked. Whether we win or lose, we will do so together.”

Kemal Malovcikj, Romani weddings in Italy were paid the best!

The star of folk music and a member of the former band “Juzni Vetar”, Kemal Malovcikj remembers the good old times when he made a lot of money in one night, but, as he says, these days are long in the past. Although he has a decent pension, his kids are living abroad, the singer decided to sell a portion of his property in Bosnia in these difficult times, especially difficult for singers.

“I decided to sell the club which I had, the upper floor has an apartment, and the first floor is a club. The club has a mobile stage, it is completely equipped, so that anyone who buys the property has everything ready to work. The club has a big parking lot.

Kemal has four children; three sons – Dzenan, Kenan and Adin, as well as one daughter Edita, however, they aren’t interested to follow in their father’s footsteps they are living their own lives.

“My children will not continue my work. They live in Wien, they are well educated. The eldest son has graduated in an IT University, his daughter works as an actress, she has recorded two albums, but she decided to abandon singing for a while. His second son is still studying, while his third son has graduated business school and he’s a manager in a savings office in Austria”. Said Malovcikj, and he remembered the good old days when he earned a lot, it even happened that he’d earn well over 100.000 euros in one night!

“The weddings of the Roma in Italy were paid the most. Lots of money were made during those times, the rich made weddings, and the money kept falling. I remember that one time, Jasmin Muharemovikj, Zlata Petrovikj and me, made well over 100.000 Euros in one night. In recent times, there was a wedding in Novi Pazar, two years ago we made 48.000 Euros in tips. There were a total of 13 musicians. “All of us shared the money, plus the regular cost which we were paid for the night” remembers the former star of “Juzni Vetar” Kemal Malovcikj.

Premiere: Tribute to Věra Gondolánová

On January 21, Věra Gondolánová left after a long serious illness. Fantastic jazz singer with an unmistakable voice and love for soul. Her family originally came from the village of Brutovce, but later moved to Prague. Věra was the youngest in the family and from the age of fifteen she performed with the family band of the Gondolán brothers, who also accompanied Karel Gott and others. She later switched to her beloved soul and chamber jazz and remained faithful to him all her life.

During totalitarianism she emigrated and married in Australia. As one of the few Czech singers, she also gave concerts at the Paris Olympia. After 1989, she returned to the Czech Republic, but still traveled frequently and performed at French festivals or clubs, for example. In the Czech Republic, her singing "live" could be admired, for example, by visitors to the Khamoro World Festival, fans of jazz clubs or Ondřej Havelka's band Melody Makers.

ROMEA TV prepared a memorial show in honor of the singer, in which her colleagues, but also her nephew Filip Gondolán, confessed their admiration for her.
